Windows 98 comes with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). There are other third party ICS software packages available that can be used to replace the ICS that comes standard with Windows. Having used Windows ICS and found it to have limits and it not being easy to map ports to where you want I started looking for a package that did more of what I was wanting. WinRoute Pro written by KERIO TECHNOLOGIES, INC. was found to have the most functions that I was looking for. After downloading it and installing it, the fun started, This guide will give you ICS with more, most ICS's don't do PORTLESS Protocols, this one does.

This guide assumes that you have a usable Dialup Internet connection and a NIC in this PC with TCPIP  and have this NIC's IP address set to 192.168.0.1. and no Windows ICS installed. I will also assume that you don't run any kind of firewall. If you do be sure to allow UDP 93 to pass. More on that later

1. Click on this link to Download WinRoutePro + this guide ZIPPED

2. Install it as per normal.

3. Reboot PC

FYI: In the following pictures you will see 192.168.0.3, this is my XROUTER's Ethernet Port IP ADDRESS, replace with yours.

Logon to the WinRoute Administration Program by double clicking on it.

This window will come up, as this is your first login, just click OK

Once login'ed in find your way to here. Click on it to enter

This is the area for setting up the port mappings need by XROUTER. Click on the ADD button.

For AXIP /  IPIP you will need to change the 'Protocol' to 'Other'. AXIP uses Protocol 93,

IPIP uses Protocol 4 and 94.

Enter 93 as in the picture and replace 192.168.0.3 with your XROUTER's IP address, then ADD one for 4

and another or 94

Now we get started on adding TCP maps.  Change 'Protocol' to 'TCP' and do the 23 map

XROUTER has a number of TCP ports that you can make available to others to use, they are

ECHO = 7            DISCARD = 9            SYSOP-FTP = 21            TELNET = 23            FINGER = 79

TTYLINK = 87            RLOGIN = 513            APRS-SERVER = 1448            CHAT = 3600

I make the ones below available, it is up to you. Bare minimim would be TCP 23 and 3600

Do you see the odd one out in my screen shot. Yes. Port 93 UDP is very important if you wish to do AXUDP,

map it just like the TCP ones but make 'Protocol' UDP instead. Then click on OK

Click on it......

Next.......

Click on 'Properties'

Make sure both are ticked

Click on 'RAS'. Ok if you are going to run your Dialup Internet Connection fulltime then change 'connection' from 'On Demand' to Persistent. If you don't have any other dialer then setup your  details......up to you really.

Then Click OK

Find and Click.

Here, 'enable cache for faster' and 'Hosts file' are ticked by default, disable 'enable cache for faster'

Then click OK

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Find and Click

Click on Edit

There will be starts there, but there is no password.......Set one, then click OK then OK

Now reboot your PC and it will be working if all is Cool. Enjoy
